Movie Night Party
76Movie Night Party
My daughter had a Movie Night Party last month to celebrate her 12th birthday. It was a sleepover party. As children get older, it becomes more difficult to find good party themes. So, if you are stuck for party ideas for your tween, a Movie Night Party may be just what you are looking for.
This page will include all of my daughter's Movie Party details and photos including her Popcorn Cupcakes, party favors, decorations, partyware, games and activities. We incorporated lots of fun party supplies into her birthday celebration including a jumbo popcorn balloon, personalized Star Walk of Fame cards for the party guests, Dancing Snacks party decorations, ticket invitations and more. We even served the party snacks in large popcorn containers and on clapboard serving trays.
Hopefully these party ideas will help you in planning a Movie Party for your child.
Movie Night Partyware
We decided on the Showtime Movie Night Party supplies for my daughter's party. The colorful design features a box of popcorn, a Director's clapboard, a movie reel and the text, "Lights, Camera, Action!".
The party box comes with dinner plates, dessert plates, cups, napkins, tablecover, a personalized birthday banner, invitations, thank you cards, balloons, decorations and more. You can pick and choose the items you would like for your party.

Movie Night Invitations
My daughter really likes the ticket style birthday invitations, so that is the style of party invite we chose for her Movie Night Party. I also like to coordinate the invitation design with the partyware whenever possible, so I was happy to find a personalized ticket invitation which had the same design as the party supplies we picked out.
*You can also purchase personalized invitations with the Showtime Movie Night Party pack listed above.

Party Table Decorations
Movie Night Party Decorations
As soon as we saw the Dancing Snacks Movie Night Cutouts, we knew we had to have them! These decorations are available in heavy cardstock and printed on both sides. Each cutout measures approximately 18". These adorable Dancing Snacks are also available in metal/tin. We hung the Dancing Snacks decorations on the light over the party table. When the kids saw them, they could not help singing the "Let's all go out to the Lobby" song. My daughter now has these cute snacks hanging up in her room.
We decorated the party table with a Movie Reel centerpiece, a large Director's clapboard, and Movie Night buttermints. I also bought red and yellow roses and placed them in a plastic Popcorn container to use as a table centerpiece.
For birthday balloons, we used a combination of red, yellow and black latex balloons as well as jumbo Popcorn and Movie Reel mylar balloons. We placed a bunch of balloons in a Clapboard Balloon weight and placed them on the cake table. We also purchased a Movie Night door banner to place behind the cake table and laid out a red carpet runner for when the guests first walked in.
Lastly, we purchased Star Walk of Fame stickers for each of the party guests. We peeled each star sticker and attached it to a white posterboard and then cut it out. We used black letters to put each guest's name on their Star. These stars were hung up in the party room and each guest took their Star home at the end of the party.

Our Popcorn Cupcakes
Popcorn Cupcakes
We decided to make Popcorn Cupcakes for the party. These are so easy to make yet they look awesome when served. Here is how you make popcorn cupcakes:
- Use 3 1/4 oz Wilton Nut and Party Cups
- Color in the red stripes using an edible red marker
- Print out the word "Popcorn" and attach it to the cup
- Bake your cupcakes in white baking liners
- Decorate the cupcakes with white icing
- Using scissors, snip the top of mini marshmallows twice in opposite directions to form an ‘X’
- Place the mini marshmallows onto the iced cupcakes
- Lightly spray the top of the cupcakes with Wilton yellow mist to create the look of butter (I overdid the mist a bit, so our popcorn had extra butter!)
- Place the finished cupcakes into the Popcorn containers
Other party snacks and food we served during the party included: Pizza, hot dogs, hot pretzels, popcorn, and movie theater candy.

Popcorn Cupcake Wrappers:
Packages contain either 12 or 48 popcorn wrappers. These cupcake wrappers are reversible with one side having a red and white striped popcorn bag design and the other side a polka dot popcorn look. Simply bake your cupcakes in a plain baking liner and place the finished cupcakes into the popcorn wrappers.
Movie Night Cupcake Picks:
The Movie Night Cupcake Picks feature three fun designs: a bag of popcorn, a movie director clapboard sign and an admit one ticket. Bake and ice your cupcakes and then insert these cupcake picks.
Movie Night Party Favors
Movie Night Party Favors
For our Movie Night Party favors, I purchased popcorn boxes. I filled the popcorn boxes with the following items:
- Clapboard Keychain
- Hershey miniatures with personalized Movie Night candy wrappers
- Dancing Snacks magnets
- Movie Night stickers
- A bag of microwave popcorn
I was happy to find black and white stitched ribbon at my local craft store that resembled a movie reel. I punched two holes in the filled popcorn boxes and attached the ribbon.

Movie Night Party Games
How To Make a Movie
Movie Night Party Games
Movie Night Bingo:
We purchased a Movie Night party game that the kids played. It was a lot of fun. It came with cards, a Popcorn container and Admit One tickets to use as markers. For some reason, I can no longer find this game. It may have been discontinued. I will keep looking and add it here if I come across it again.
Candy Bar Trivia:
I made a Candy Bar Trivia game which included three games:
Name the Candy Bar, Candy Bar Slogans and Candy Bar Word Fun. I searched the Internet to find the questions for the game. We decorated the game board with candy images. I purchased large boxes of classic theater candy. We emptied the boxes (the candy was served during the party) and then hot glued the empty boxes together to resemble a movie theater candy counter.
You're in the Movies:
This is a fun XBox game which allows you to act out scenes and then at the end of the game all of the scenes are compiled to create a mini movie. My daughter and her friends love to make movies, so I knew they would like this game. The game is only for the XBox 360 so you would need that gaming system to play it. I do want to note that as much fun as this game is, it does take some effort to get it to work properly. We played the game at night and the game requires lots of light. So, we brought a few lamps into the room and had to keep adjusting them to get the picture in the game to work. It also works better with a white background, so we hung a white sheet behind the play area. If you have a white wall behind you, that would also work. That being said, when you get everything to work properly, it is a fun game that the kids love to play.
Pinata:
I purchased a Take One clapboard pinata for the pinata activity. Unfortunately, the pinata hanger broke after the third child hit it and it fell to the ground. So, we just dumped the candy out.
Watched a Movie:
Once the girls settle down for the night, we put in the movie. My daughter's favorite movie is "The Princess Bride", so that is what the girls watched.
