How To Make A Twilight Cake

Twilight Movie parties as well as Twilight birthday parties are the latest rage. With the newest movie New Moon opening in theaters this November, this party theme is just going to get even more popular!

If you are hosting a Twilight party, you will find a large selection of birthday cake ideas and supplies here. Twilight Birthday Party

There are three great Twilight cupcake ring designs available for purchase.

The first is the Team Jacob/Team Edward. Your birthday party guests can select the cupcake they want depending on which team they are on.

The other cupcake rings include the Family Crest and Twilight Eclipse Movie rings.

The birthday party guests can take their cupcake rings home with them after the party.

A popular Twilight cake design is covering the cake in a black and white chess board pattern.

The chess board look can be achieved using black and white fondant. First, cover your entire cake with white fondant. Then, using a small square cookie cutter, cut out black squares. Start from the bottom of the cake and work your way up. Do the first two rows at the same time to be sure that everything lines up properly.

You could also cover the entire cake with fondant and then add on both white and black squares to create your chess board pattern. When applying the fondant squares, make sure each square is snug up against the other, so there is no cake showing between the pieces. Learn How To Decorate with Fondant

Wilton Checkerboard Cake Pan: Checkerboard layer cakes look fancy but are surprisingly easy to make with a Nopro cake pan set. The kit includes three 9 inch pans and one 3-ring batter divider, which is used to separate the batter while pouring. Once you've baked the cakes achieving the checkerboard effect is simple: just stack the baked layers so the colors alternate, then frost.

This cake pan would be great to use with your Twilight cake. I would use red batter and black batter to create your chess board. The guests will be so surprised when they see the inside of this cake!   Checkboard Cake Recipe with photos.

Chocolate Chess Board: This would make an incredibly unique Twilight cake! Using a chess board candy mold, make a chocolate chess board. Use white chocolate and chocolate tinted black to create the chocolate squares. Bake a square cake and then place the chocolate chess board on top of the cake. You can then top with chocolate chess pieces. Yummy!

Add chess pieces to the top of your Twilight Cake to represent the Breaking Dawn novel. There are a few different ways in which you can do this.

Fondant Chess Pieces: If you are experienced in working with fondant and sugar paste, you can hand mold 3D chess pieces for your cake.

Chocolate Chess Pieces: Purchase chess candy molds and make chocolate chess pieces for the top of the cake. Mold the pieces in white chocolate and leave the Queen piece white and color the pawn red to coordinate with the Breaking Dawn book cover. Learn How To Mold Chocolate

Party Note: Chocolate chess pieces would also make great party favors! Simply place them in bags and tie with red and black ribbon.

Use a Cookie Cutter: Purchase chess cookie cutters and simply cut the Queen and Pawn out of white and red fondant and apply them to your cake.

Hand Paint: If you are artistic, you can hand paint the chess pieces onto your cake.

Plastic Chess Pieces: Purchase plastic chess game pieces and simply place them on top of your Twilight cake.

You can add a red apple to the top of your Twilight Cake to represent the Twilight novel in the series. Here are a few ways to do this.

Fondant Apple: Mold the Apple out of red fondant.

Chocolate Apple: Purchase an apple candy mold and make a solid chocolate apple for the cake. This may be too heavy to place on top of the cake, so you may need to place the chocolate apple along the side of the cake instead. I am certain all of the chocolate lovers at the party will love digging into this delicious treat! Learn How to Mold Chocolate

Fake Apple: There are many faux apples available on the market which can be placed on top of your cake.

Use a Cookie Cutter: Purchase an apple cookie cutter and cut the apple out of red fondant. Apply to the top of your cake.

Hand Paint: If you have some artistic ability, you can hand paint the apple onto the cake with red frosting.

Use a Real Apple: A real apple would work well, too.

Party note: Chocolate apples would also make great party favors!

You could use a Wolf candy mold to make chocolate wolves to top your New Moon party cake.

These chocolates are simple to make and make a wonderful cake decoration.

Wolf Candy Mold Description

• Figure Size: 3"" TALL
• FDA approved.
• Mold measures 8 X 10 1/4 .
• First quality, tough plastic mold
• Durable and reusable.

You could also use these chocolate wolves for party favors.

With Fondant: Bake two 9 X 13 cakes and stack them on top of each other. Cover the cake in white fondant. Then take a rectangular piece of black fondant and wrap the cake leaving an edge around the sides to create the look of a book. Make a small indent alongside the black fondant "book cover" to create the binding. 

With Frosting: Bake two 9 X 13 cakes and stack them on top of each other. Ice three of the sides with white frosting. Tint the icing black and ice the last side and top with black frosting. Let the frosting dry slightly and then pipe a thick line along the edges to achieve the look of a book cover. Using a fork or a comb, to trace over the white frosting the create "pages".

The flower depicted on the cover of Twilight's New Moon book is a ruffled tulip called estella rijnveld.

You can visit your local flower shop or craft store to see if they carry these ruffled tulips. Another option would be to create these tulips using fondant. Cut the tulip petals out of white fondant and then accent with decorative red icing to achieve the look. You could also use crinkled white non-edible paper and accent with red colors.

I just came across these beautiful tulips that would be absolutely perfect for your New Moon party! They look exactly like the ruffled tulip on the cover of the New Moon book.

Simply purchase a bunch of them and create a wonderful table centerpiece! Or, you could use them to accent the party favors as well. What a great find! The ideas are endless.
