Bottle Cap Necklace Favor

Bottle Cap Necklaces

Bottle caps are the latest rage right now in scrapbooking, crafting and jewelry making . A bottle cap necklace would make a wonderful party favor for your daughter's next birthday.

The girls will love receiving these necklaces in their favor bags or as a stand alone favor. Bottle caps are fun accessories that add a little funk to your wardrobe. If you decide to hand out bottle cap necklaces as favors, you can wrap them in a pretty bag or pouch.

You can purchase bottle cap necklaces completely assembled and ready to give out to the birthday party guests or you can make them yourself. If you choose to make them yourself, you can construct them from scratch or purchase the finished bottle cap and just assemble the necklace.

These bottle cap necklace favors can be purchased or crafted in any birthday party theme, so you are sure to find the perfect favor for your party.

Bottle Cap Necklace Favors

There are many sellers that offer custom bottle cap necklaces that would be great for your birthday party favors. The finished bottle caps are put on coordinating grosgrain ribbon or a silver ball chain. Sometimes the necklaces are embellished with dangle beads for a really fun look.

Buy the Bottle Cap, Assemble the Necklace

There are many sellers that offer custom crafted bottle caps. These bottle caps feature a large variety of different birthday party themes. Many of them are made to coordinate with official partyware designs, so you are sure to find the perfect theme for your party favors.

The bottle caps are epoxy sealed and are crafted from bottle caps which are unused and uncrimped which means they have never been sealed down on a bottle.

If you decide to purchase these custom bottle caps and assemble your own party favor necklaces, here is what you need to do:

  • Punch a hole through the flattened rim of the bottle cap using a hammer and nail.
  • Use jewelry pliers to attach a jump ring through the punched hole.
  • Slide the finished bottle cap onto a ball chain or ribbon.

*Birthday Party Tip:  These custom bottle caps can also be used to embellsh the birthday invitations and/or decorate party favor bags.

About Epoxy Seals

These easy to apply bottle cap seals provide a crystal clear 3D sealed bottle cap without the fuss of sealants.  You can make quality bottle caps in minutes.

Crafting Your Bottle Cap Necklaces From Scratch

You can also craft your bottle caps from scratch. The process is fairly simple and making the favor necklaces is a fun project you and your daughter can work on together. There is more than one way to create bottle cap necklaces, however, I will list the basic instructions below.

  • Purchase unused bottle caps. *Used bottle caps tend to have sharp edges around the cap.
  • Bottle caps can be flattened or used as they are
  • If you choose to flatten your bottle caps, place them ridge side down. Using a mallet, tap the bottle cap twice on top. Then, turn over and hit it once more to even it out
  • Find a small image you would like to use for your bottle cap
  • Using a 1" circle punch, punch out your image
  • *There are sellers that offer premade bottle cap images in many designs.  Nice time saver.
  • Glue the image to the bottle cap
  • Seal the bottle cap using Diamond Glaze, Liquid Lacquer or Resin
  • Wait 24 hrs for the coating to completely dry
  • Once your bottle cap is completely dry, you can then follow the necklace making instructions above to assemble your necklace
  • *If you use Clear Epoxy 3D Circles, there is no drying time required

Choker Bottle Cap Necklaces

In addition to placing your completed bottle caps onto ball chain necklaces and ribbon, you can also create a choker necklace for your bottle caps.

To make a choker necklace, you can use organza ribbon or stretch grosgrain ribbon. This ribbon is available in a variety of colors. You can even use a velvet stretch ribbon. Some of this ribbon is already assembled with a clasp and all you need to do is add your bottle cap. Other times you can purchase the ribbon and add the clasp yourself.

Janet, I must say you are amazing. You are always finding all these great and interesting niche topics, and your articles are so well constructed. Remember the little people when you become filthy rich :) - it is only a matter of time I think.

@shibashake: Filthy rich would be great, but I'll settle for making enough money to continue being an at home Mom. ;) Thanks for your kind words and compliments. It is comments like this that help keep me going!

These are so cool Janet - I really like these - I am thinking to myself - do I have any bottles with caps? They are hard to find now, but I guess you have to get them from Ebay or drink lots of beer - hmmmm. A beer sounds perfect - lol.

lisa1203 2 years ago

I wish I would have read this before buying bottle caps! Does anyone know that the stretcy part of the necklace is made of? Also, I purchased a pourable sealer - do the disks sold on ebay work better?

Thanks for the help! And I vote for drink more beer!!

Janet21 profile image

Janet21 Hub Author 2 years ago

@lisa1203, the stretchy part of the necklace is made from stretchy ribbon. I have added some additional products to this hub including stretch ribbon and premade choker necklaces. Maybe these items will give you some more ideas. As far as the epoxy seals go, I have never personally used them, however, I have heard great things about them. Hope this helps! Thanks for stopping by my hub. :)

I am working on making bottle caps now!! I can't find the right kindof glaze to put over them to seal it. I bought Aleene's paper galze and a ton of other products testing them out. I have been printing little sayings from word and then trying to glue and glaze them in my bottle cap and they ALL smear. What am i doing wrong? different paper? different glaze? any help?!? :-/

Janet21 profile image

Janet21 Hub Author 2 years ago

Stacy, I have never used Aleene's paper glaze before, but I have heard from other people that it can be difficult to work with. I would recommend trying Diamond Glaze or the adhesive epoxy seals I have listed on this page. Also, what type of paper are you using to print out your images? High quality photo paper works best. Hope this helps!

Stacy  2 years ago

thanks! can you get the diamond glaze at a store or just off the internet? i was just using card stock because they were just little sayings that i was making on word "2nd grade rocks" But i have some photo paper i will try it with. thanks for your help! :) i sealed a few with E6000 and it worked great, didn't smear the writing, but OH MY i couldn't stand the smell when i wore the necklace! haha

Stacy, You can visit the Diamond Glaze website below to see where you can buy it locally. It is mostly available at specialty scrapbook and art stores. Good luck!

What is the stretch stuff the M3 peeps use. I thought it looked like the nylon potholder stuff at Hobby Lobby but it isn't stretchy or long enough. Has anyone seen the stretchy stuff? I want to make the chokers but I can't find it? Any help appreciated.

Janet21 profile image

Janet21 Hub Author 2 years ago

@annie: I really don't know what the m3 girls use for their choker necklaces. I have been trying to figure that out, too! You are right, though, they do look a lot like nylon potholder material.

If anyone reading this page knows the answer to this question, please feel free to post it here, so we can end the mystery. :)

Elizabeth  2 years ago

I was wondering, how exactly do you hammer the nail to make the hole? What kind of surface do u use for that? Thx

Janet21 profile image

Janet21 Hub Author 2 years ago

@Elizabeth: You should hammer the nail into the bottlecap on a sturdy, flat surface. I use my work table, but any table would be fine. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cool idea, I cannot say that I've seen it before. I think I must send my baby shower favor reader here. They will really enjoy this!

Alyssia 2 years ago

How do you get around copyrights with the images you are using? Is it wrong to use another artists/company/sports teams work for you own personal gain? I'm a crafter myself and I have been wondering about this.

Janet21 profile image

Janet21 Hub Author 2 years ago

@Alyssia: The bottle cap products listed on this page were not created by me. They are custom made by various crafters. As far as copyright issues are concerned, different crafters have different views on this topic. Some will use the images and others will only use images they purchase the copyright for. These are more generic images as opposed to licensed characters. I have also seen 'one time use' copyright disclaimers on some sellers pages. You are correct in that copyrighted images should not be used, however many still use them. From what I have seen, most companies are aware of what is being sold on Ebay and I suppose if they had a problem with it, they would have the auctions removed. I have seen that happen in the past. Sorry I don't have a more definite answer for you.

Kathleen  2 years ago

Hi,

I am planning on making these for party favors and wonder if you have ever painted them and if so, what type of paint works best? Thanks so much!

Janet21 profile image

Janet21 Hub Author 2 years ago

Hi Kathleen, I have never painted bottle caps before, however, I think an acrylic paint or a paint pen would work. Hope this helps!

Heather C 22 months ago

Hi- To make the bottle caps magnetic so that they can go on the stretchy necklace with washers-do you just glue a magnet to back of cap? Also, to make the hole in cap-if you use a nail and hammer, arent you making the hole on the circular area where your image goes? I was thinking that I needed it in the "ruffled" edge....

Janet21 profile image

Janet21 Hub Author 22 months ago

Heather: yes, glue a small magnet to the back of the cap for your magnetic bottle cap necklace. If you are making a hole in the cap, you need to punch the hole in the ruffled area of the cap, not in the circular area. Hope this helps!

GreenTee 21 months ago

What kind of photo / inkjet paper do you use to print your own designs on. I tried glossy Kodak photo paper but the image ran when i put in the Diamond Glaze. I even waited 24 hours after printing the image before glazing. Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Janet21 profile image

Janet21 Hub Author 21 months ago

@GreenTee: Using a laser jet printer is better than using an inkjet printer to prevent smearing. You could have your images laser printed out your local office supply store. If you are using an inkjet printer, you can still seal your bottle cap images with Diamond Glaze as long as you use waterproof ink and waterproof photo paper. For example, Epson premium photo paper is water resistent. There are others. You would just need to find an ink compatible with your printer which is also water resistent. Another option, would be to use the epoxy seals listed on this page. Hope this helps!

Hi! I love the information you have posted. What great help! I make bows for my little girl and wanting to add some sayings to bottle caps. What program are you using to create custom words? I have all the supplies just having a hard time finding how to create words? Thanks so much!

I am on a bottle cap recycling mission of late and your ideas are marvelous. I have all of my beer drinking friends on notice to keep their bottle caps for me and they will get a piece of fun art in return for the favor...My own little "pay it forward"...I am making headbands for my baby grand-daughter with bottle cap embellishments as my latest kick. The boring dollar store variety really needed some help to make them look hip ;)
